They need to be located in a central location that all students use to
access study materials (e.g. the Library) alongside staff who have been
properly trained in how to use them and are paid to provide a professional,
efficient transcription service. It's pointless providing this equipment
without also providing people who specialise in using it to provide a
transcription service- even if you only have one student who uses the
service. It's not acceptable to expect existing staff to take on the extra
responsibilities of managing this equipment on top of their current duties;
it's a very specialist job.
