Subject: Re: Computer facilities for visually impaired students
I'd agree that I'm not sure that there is any point in having a
universal default setting for these things, as individuals vary so much
in their preferences.
But ALL reading impaired users (which includes many dyslexic users with
Visual Stress/Meares-Irlen problems as well as VI users -- see
http://www.dyslexic.com/vision) should have training on how to set up
their Windows, web browser and Word to use the colours, fonts and
spacing that they are most comfortable with.
Alternatively -- obvious declaration of commercial interest here -- you
could install our Readable program (http://www.dyslexic.com/readable)
which gives easy setup and one-click-control of these things in Windows.
Any Dis-Forum member who has not already had a copy of Readable from us
can get 1 free copy to evaluate and use by emailing
[log in to unmask] We'd like to think that this was a better
approach to SENDA than leaving users to fight with all the relevant
settings on each machine that they use.
Readable does not do zoom settings -- but in many cases changing fonts
and spacing will give better results than zoom.
You may also want to look at Screen Ruler for a simple zoom
(http://www.dyslexic.com/products.php?pid=470). Available from the same
[log in to unmask] on 30 day's evaluation.
