Hi
I have been asked to post up this message for interested parties to attend
the launch:
"Skill Wales Launch: 1st March 2005, Glamorgan Business Centre, Trefforest,
4.30 - 7.30pm
Skill: The National Bureau for Students with Disabilities promotes
opportunities to empower young people and adults with any kind of
disability to realise their potential in further, continuing and higher
education, training and employment throughout the United Kingdom. Skill
works by providing information and advice to individuals, and promoting
good practice and influencing policy in partnership with disabled people,
service providers and policy makers.
Currently celebrating our 30th anniversary, Skill has long worked with
representatives of disabled learners, colleges and universities in Wales.
With the support of the Big Lottery Fund and the Lloyds TSB Foundation,
Skill is delighted to establish Skill Wales, working on the issues directly
relevant to the country and important to disabled learners in Wales.
The launch of Skill Wales will take place on St David's Day, Tuesday 1
March 2005, from 4.30 - 7.30pm at the University of Glamorgan. Our
speakers, Dr D Halton, Vice Chancellor of the University of Glamorgan, The
Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning, Jane Davidson AM, and
Professor Teresa Rees, who is heading the Rees Review into the tuition fee
regime in Wales, from Cardiff University will be giving us their input on
this vital area of education in Wales.
We would be delighted if you would join us for this significant event, to
meet with Skill Wales staff and the Branch Committee as well as
representatives from other further and higher education institutions,
voluntary organisations and LEAs from across Wales, and learn a little more
about the issues for disabled learners and what Skill Wales aims to
achieve.
Please email Rachel Pass on [log in to unmask] to confirm your attendance and
she will send you an official invitation. Please could you also encourage
any disabled students that you know who may be interested in attending to
come along. We may be able to provide help towards transport costs for
disabled students.
Many thanks
Karen Robson
Co-Chair, Skill Wales Branch Committee"
