Dear Colleagues
Re: Work experience and work based learning: Promoting best practice for learners with a sight loss - 19 January 2006
Many individuals who are blind and partially sighted are denied the opportunity of gaining a good work experience because of a range of barriers that make participation difficult.
This course explores how to overcome these barriers, whilst looking at the legalities and best practice involved in organising successful work placement programmes for learners with disabilities.
Aims
1. To consider work experience from the perspectives of visually impaired individuals and placement providers.
2. To explore the implications of recent legislative developments such as the Disability Discrimination Act.
3. To discuss ideas on setting up suitable placements, including identification of support networks and funding issues.
Course presenters
· Elizabeth Jackson, RNIB Senior PCET Officer, London and South East
· Kudirat Adeniyi, Disability Employment Officer, London and South East
· Trainee Employee, Education and Employment Dept, London and South East
