Re: First steps in accessible web design - 20 January 2005
This course offers practical advice and guidance on how to implement accessibility features into web site design. Participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience of designing a simple website and making it more accessible for all users.
Aims
1. To provide guidelines about making websites accessible to users with sight loss.
2. To provide hands on experience looking at and checking websites for accessibility issues.
3. To learn how to use screen reader and screen magnification software for checking websites.
4. Using basic techniques you will learn how to create an accessible web site using HTML satisfying W3C priority 1- level A.
5. To gain a basic knowledge of accessible forms and tables.

The day will be extremely useful for staff at schools, colleges, universities and training organisations starting out in building websites.
Prior knowledge required
ICT skills and basic concepts of creating a website
