LOCN Note taking for Disabled students in Higher Education

There are a few places available for the note taking course starting next week in Central London full fee £191 concessions £127

1. What is the course about?
This course trains you to take clear, informative notes for students with different disabilities.  You will also study the context and role of note takers. The note taking needs of students with disabilities are examined. Information about supporting disabled students is covered

2. What level is the course?
Level 3

3. What will the course cover? (contents, themes, projects)
Technical note taking skills, role of a note taker, note taking needs of disabled students, DDA, note taking practice, guest speakers, how to take notes in different styles, context of note taking in education and handwriting practice

4. What can I expect to achieve?
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Students who successfully complete the portfolio of work are awarded the London Open College Certificate at level 3.

5. How will I be taught?
Lectures, role play, group and pair work, discussion, visiting speakers, exercises and by giving and receiving feedback about the quality of notes

6. What course can I do next?
Any course which develops your skills in supporting students eg, electronic note taking, lipspeaking, BSL, CSW training

General information and advice on courses at the City Lit is available from the Information and Advice Shop open daily 11-7 Monday to Friday and Saturday from 10-2 term time.  12-5 non term time.  See the programme guide for further details.

7. Are there any other costs (e.g. certification, materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course?)
?(e.g.certification, materials, equipment or books I need to bring before or during the course?)You need to bring a folder with plenty of dividers, a selection of pens, a ruler, plenty of file paper and a dictionary.  Some people may buy handwriting books


8. How will I know how I'm progressing?
Your notes are marked daily.  You will receive formal and informal feedback during the course and  are taught to assess the quality of your own notes

Your progress will be regularly assessed and monitored by your tutor taking into account class work and homework where appropriate. The tutor will record your progress and provide informal, regular feedback throughout the course. At the end of your study programme you will be asked to self-assess your own progress and achievement against the course objectives above. The tutor will endorse your assessment which will be formally recorded on a standard form (the Statement of Learning). 

9. Will I have a chance to give my views on the course?
We welcome comments on the course and an evaluation sheet is filled in at the end of the course

There will be an opportunity to evaluate your course at the end.
