Announcing more Briefings and Checklists from the National Disability Team
(NDT):
Briefings launched
Tips and strategies for marketing units: This briefing focuses on three
key aspects of the marketing role:
1. Publicity and promotional resources.
2. Events including open days and school liaison events.
3. International students.
The briefing gives an outline of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA
1995) and the Special Educational Needs and Discrimination Act (SENDA
2001) for staff with responsibility for marketing functions. It also
covers strategies for legal compliance by discussing ways that staff can
examine current practices and review where they can be improved.
Promoting the disability agenda: A briefing that introduces a new approach
to raising the profile of disability issues using ideas and models more
commonly applied within marketing. Given the conflicting demands upon the
time of many staff in higher education, it is important that key
disability champions develop innovative approaches to encourage engagement
with the disability agenda. Also examined in the briefing are some of the
problems that can inhibit effective promotion of the disability agenda and
some insights and tools that can provide effective solutions.
Checklists launched
Quality and Monitoring: This checklist contains resources and information
relating to the consideration of disabled students in the quality and
monitoring aspects of HE provision. The checklist also aims to raise
questions and stimulate debate and discussion for teams working with
internal quality issues at different levels within institutions and/or
with partners such as Further Education Colleges (FECs).
WP and Disability Checklist: This checklist will assist teams and
individuals to consider the existing level of institutional engagement
with disability issues in a WP context, provide an opportunity for
individuals and teams to consider the synergy between their roles and
enable further consideration to be given to disabled students as a target
group within WP.
Staff Development: This checklist examines ways in which higher education
institutions may consider the issue of disability in their staff and
educational development activities. It focuses on including disability
within the content of programmes and how to ensure that activities are
accessible to disabled participants.
