Hi All,
I have come across a new idea...just looking for any advice and thoughts
people may have.
We currently have a Deaf student who is studying Art and Design. As
part of his modules he has to complete a 200 word essay and a 3000 word
essay. As the student is primarily a BSL user he finds it very
difficult to understand and write in 'normal' English to meet academic
writing standards. He is completely overwhelmed by this and feels he
would not be able to produce such levels of written work.
I am currently looking at the possibilty of alternative methods of
assessment. Possibly the option of recording him as he signs his essay
onto video and then asking an interpreter to interpret to the lecturer?
This however has implications of how long the video would be if it is to
match the word counts of the essays.
Has anyone come across anything like this before? Or has anyone got any
better ideas?
I would appreciate any advice and guidance on or off list.
Kind Regards
Sumara
