Several students, mainly those with dyslexia, are coming to me with their DSA1 forms asking me to sign them and check that they have filled them in correctly. (Even if it were necessary I am unable to do this as the form needs to be stamped by registry). The instructions on the front, which most have missed, state that if they are fulltime undergrads they only need to fill in certain sections and the HEI does not need to sign and stamp the form.
It seems to me that the form is not 'dyslexia friendly'. Also I am wondering if LEAs are interpreting the instructions differently? Any ideas?

I raised simlar concerns on this list a week or two ago. Assessment Centres in the south have noted a marked dropped in the number of students requesting assessments. (waiting lists are down). Something is occuring at LEAs delaying DSA applications and Disability Officers need to be aware this. Students and/or LEAs may need chasing up. Fireworks are currently on sale.

I am concerned by delays region in processing DSA1 forms and wondered if anyone else has experienced this, in particular with regard to students with dyslexia? In the interests of diplomacy, I would be grateful to receive any replies off list for the moment.
Thanks in anticipation.

I agree entirely with the point made by Dr. Conway. In fact my audit tool with over 150 questions only uses the word disability about 19 times. By substituting the sentences with "disability" in them with phrases such as "disadvantaged group", the tool becomes a Widening Participation audit tool.
In fact if lecturers do their jobs well then all students will benefit, a fact most disability advisors agree with.
I agree that all students need a fair deal, my comments about students with disabilities is purely because that is the focus of this forum.
