The NCTD 'Core Graphics Pack: Psychology' - A new resource for all
departments teaching psychology, facilitating compliance with disability
legislation in the teaching of blind and visually impaired students.
The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) legislation requires all educational
establishments to give blind and visually impaired students equal access to
learning and teaching materials.
So, as more such students apply for psychology courses, you need the
resources to be able to answer these questions:
• Can you effectively support these students?
• What images will you need to enhance for them?
• Which images can you convey in words alone?
• Which words best describe your chosen images?
• Where do you source appropriate materials?
The well-researched ‘Core Graphics Pack: Psychology‘ from the National
Centre for Tactile Diagrams (NCTD) gives you the resources you need.
The pack gives instant and effective access to 54 complex core psychology
diagrams with support materials for use in lectures and in private study:
• 33 tactile and large print diagrams with descriptions
• 21 further diagrams conveyed through words alone
• Guidelines for both staff and students
• CD of large print diagrams, plus full text to read electronically, to
braille, or to print in any size according to need.
The images were selected from those most commonly used on UK Psychology
courses and relate to all six core domains as determined by the British
Psychological Society.
Endorsed by the Higher Education Academy Psychology Network: “This unique
resource significantly benefits the teaching and learning experience of a
blind or visually impaired psychology student. Every department should have
one.”
Researched and developed by psychologists at the NCTD, University of
Hertfordshire, as part of a HEFCE/DELNI funded project.
