Hi Klaire
Although I haven't any direct experience of support visually impaired
student in bioscience, I thought that you might find some of the resources
and case studies signposted from the NDT website useful as background
reading for inclusive laboratory practice.
In the NDT Resource Directory, you can display all resources that are
relevant to Bioscience or Physical sciences by browsing the Directory by
subject area (go to http://www.natdisteam.ac.uk/rdbrowse.php then click on
the subject you are interested in). Alternatively, you can search the
Directory (go to http://www.natdisteam.ac.uk/rdsearch.html) for resources
that contain relevant keywords (a search with keyword "laboratory" produced
some resources that might be helpful).
Also on the NDT website are case studies which we have ordered by subject
centre (see
http://www.natdisteam.ac.uk/Case%20Studies_List%20L&T%20CS.html). One of the
Physical Sciences case studies on our site references a publication entitled
"Teacher's Manual for Adapting Science Experiments for Blind and Visually
Impaired Students" which might also have some useful advice (to access the
manual, go to: http://www.tsbvi.edu/Education/Manual2.doc).
I hope that you find the resources useful.
Best wishes
Sarah

Hi
Has anyone had a visually impaired student studying human biology? If
so what support/specialist equipment have you put in place? The student
we have will need to work in the lab situation and look through
microscopes. He does have some useful vision and uses arial 22 for
print. It is mainly his central vision which has been affected.
Any suggestions of type of support would be appreciated. We are still
awaiting his assessment of needs report as he only had it done a couple
of weeks ago.
