Dear Annette
There is also a UK group:
http://www.hphl.org.uk/
for health professionals with a hearing loss - including information on stethoscopes.
There are a variety of manufacturers for electronic stethoscopes, including - Welch Allyn, Cardionics (from PMS Instruments Ltd - with possibility of direct audio input to hearing aids), Littman... You can get the output as a visual display, with right equipment.
I've managed to get one or two on a 2 week loan for trial.

Hi
I have recommended a specialist amplified stethoscope, which the user is able to use with or without a hearing aid - the details are below. The supplier was really helpful, but make sure you order the batteries for the stethoscope too.
Suggested Supplier = Starkey Laboratories, William F. Austin House, Bramhall Technology Park, Pepper Road, Hazel Grove, Stockport, SK7 5BX, Tel: 0500 262131, Fax: 0500 262350, Web: www.starkey.co.uk
Starkey Model ST3 Powered Stethoscope (including all peripherals)
There is also a useful American website for the Association of medical Professionals with hearing Loss - http://www.amphl.org/
Hope this helps
Esther

Subject: Midwifery and Hearing loss
Hi All,
I wonder if anyone can help. We have an applicant who wishes to study Midwifery and has a degree of hearing loss in both ears. I'm told by the academic staff that foetal heart monitoring would be an issue as most of this work is done in the community. Is anyone aware of equipment that might get round this issue? Thanks
