Malcolm I wonder if you could expand on claiming for Ed Psych reports for FE students - we scabble around for funding elsewhere for this for out learners (mainly when they're anticipating progression to HE to facilitate DSA applications).
Thanks, Joel

Hi All,
I think at times it's a chicken and egg situation, as South Thames we have a reseasonably large budget for providing support for students across a wide range of difficulties and are constantly trying to expand to provide an even better service, we certainly claim for double staffing or smaller class size whichever is the more appropriate for example. In SpLD we claim for all our assessment, Ed Psych and teacher, time for meetings that are about a particular student, materials used by individual students, including cost of specialist software, and the depreciation on specialist hardware. The difficulty is I suppose that you have to have a fair idea about what you might spend and budget to that so that you can claim back that amount at the end of the year, it is sometimes difficult to persuade senior management that the investment will be returned.

Subject: LSC funding (for F.E. Only)
Hello All,
I was recently at a conference and during a chat with a fellow Disability Officer the subject of ALS funding came up. The DO said that they were very limited in the support they could offer due to financial restraints, when I asked about how much they claim for support such as the Ed Psych Report, double staffing of some classes etc the DO gave me a blank stare and said that the college did not claim for such expenses.
Can I just ask what is the experience of other F.E colleges? Do you provide extensive additional support in the knowledge that the LSC will reimburse them? Or do you find that there isn't funding for all the support you could potentially offer?
Thanks, Paul (Disability Officer, Richmond upon Thames College)
