Hello all,
Here in Northern Ireland, we have a Register of freelance Support Providers
managed by a consortium consisting of the University of Ulster, Queen's
University and the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education. We
provide support in all the usual categories ranging from note-takers,
proofreaders and library helpers to IT tutors, Study Support Tutors (Mental
Health and general), and Dyslexia Support Tutors.
As part of the on-going development of the Register, we are keen to come up
with some form of accredited training course. This is still in the very
early stages, but I would envisage that it would involve general training,
with perhaps some specialist modules relating to the areas of disability in
which the tutors provide support. We do run various training courses at the
minute, such as Disability Awareness, Dyslexia Awareness and Note-taking,
but we are keen to have training which is accredited to an official body.
Does anyone know of any such courses that operate in any other institutions,
or of any accreditation bodies which may be able to provide me with some
pointers here?
Any advice on or off list would be much appreciated.
Best wishes,
Claire
