To my missery I found that not only are laptops a possible hazard when used
on your lap/bed/anything soft or fabric, they don't last very long either.
Very few electrical gadgets like over heating, and a laptop is not
exception.
I got through two very expensive hardrives, an ATi graphics chip (which I
still haven't got round to replacing) and a bunch of memory before I was
told not to put my laptop atop my lap! It wasn't notably hot on the outside
(although I've had some that could fried an egg) but the vents were getting
blocked, and the fragile thermophobic bits inside were not happy. So EA's
suggestion or similar would be well advised.
