Hi, River Blindness is actually an inflammation of the eye which has been caused as a result of someone being bitten by a speciec of black fly which transmits this disease. (species are most often found near fivers and streams in Central Africa and Central America, hence the River Blindness) It can cause inflammation and scarring of the cornea and lesions in the eye. As with any other type of visual impairment, the individual may be the best person to tell you exactly how this affects you and recommendations could be similar to those for other types of visual impairment.
If Roz would like to contact me off list I'd be more than happy to discuss this further, or if you do a search on the internet for 'river blindness' you should find more information.
Regards, Lesley

Sounds like Meares-Irlen syndrome. There's lots of information if you
Google. The 'river' symptoms relate to perceived movement of text where
it can appear as if the text is separated by 'rivers' of white
background or bunched text.

We have a student come to us with river blindness and he is experiencing
blurred vision, difficulties with reading and computing. Has anyone
supported a student with this and what did you do? He is an
international student...
