Hopefully a quick question for a sunny Friday afternoon . . .
From time to time we have letters returned to us from the post-office as
addressee 'gone-away'. When this occurs, we would update the customer's
address record on our database as 'gone away' so no further correspondence
is sent out - thereby avoiding a breach of the 7th principle.
Is updating the customer's record to 'gone away' sufficient to meet the
requirements of the 4th principle or should we be taking some 'reasonable
steps' to obtain the current and accurate address of the customer? Does
the customer have an obligation to help us keep our records accurate?
I'd be interested in your views or your own current practices.
Many thanks,
Emma
