The bus pass I found in the grass verge outside my house recently had
the child's name and the name of the school on it. This was sufficient
for me to be able to tell the school and for them to tell the parents
who hotfooted it round to collect. (Apparently there is some monetary
value to the card). Probably worked even better for card return than an
address since my contribution was complete with one phone call to an
office which had someone there who made themselves responsible for
contacting the owner.
Given the concerns you quote (valid or not, they are still concerns)
what reasons would you have for retaining the address?
Regards
Jim

Subject: [data-protection] Bus passes
Our school bus passes have the child's name and address on the back,
together with the route number and school. They only show the front of
the pass to the driver. We have been advised to have this removed
because of DP issues. I can see the point if the card is lost, and the
current worry of paedophiles, but I feel that as the data subject has
control of the card and doesn't have to disclose the side with personal
details unless they wish to (for any other reason), we are not in the
wrong.
