Isn't this a case of companies - and I acknowledge Martin's point that it
applies equally to all mobile phone companies - implementing a "service"
simply because technology makes it possible rather than ensuring that the
"service" operates in the interest of their customers?
A subscriber allowing someone to run up a large bill because of
unsupervised usage of the phone from which outgoing calls are made is one
thing. A subscriber being billed for incoming SMS messages which may well
have resulted from the use of a cloned SIM card is entirely another.
Phone companies could easily overcome this problem by making the
originators of calls/messages liable for the costs of them.
