It seems they've failed to keep their data (yes, data) accurate, because
they've associated and mailed data related to one customer to another
[person/customer, it's not clear]. There is data in their possession, I
assume, which would allow *them* to identify the individuals, even if
they have a common name and are hard to identify by a man in the street.
