You also have the right if you want to register your business with corporate
TPS. Though I find this idea anathema to people being able to do their jobs
if they in any way relate to procurement.
With the domestic element of TPS I am very sweet and take down all the
details faithfully, entering them directly into the TPS website and make
the complaint often during the call itself.
Very sweetly I then explain that the person calling me has committed an
unlawful act and has been reported.
Auto diallers are used to business numbers. But I suspect the people
programming them are more sensitive that those who set them up for domestic
users.
The one that really gets my goat is the pleasant recorded message form
Florida that grabs my line for ages and wants me to buy a timeshare by
pressing 9. (and no it does not then transfer ownership of the call to me,
nor does the call cost me anything, that was a major misunderstanding by
Wiltshire Constabulary).
I have also been telecanvassed live by a cowboy outfit from Limoges selling
china and glassware in my local hotel. Limoges is outside the UK and thus
seems at liberty to call me at home if I am listed in the book.

If your widgets were likely to be relevant to my job you are welcome to
contact me during business hours at one of my business contact addresses,
which are widely advertised (though I am also welcome to tell the
switchboard I do not wish to talk to you at the moment). You are highly
unwelcome (and will be told so if you ever bother to pick up the
phone) to phone me on my ex-directory home number, which has been registered
with the TPS for several years.
Interestingly I don't think I've ever had a silent call on my business
number, but I'm getting them every couple of days on the domestic one at the
moment. When I complained to BT they said there was nothing they could do,
and suggested that the numbers were auto-generated, rather than taken off
any list, so even Antoinette's solution may not work :-(
