Forwarded at the request of the PATOSS, Professional Association of
Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties.

Please note the Draft Report on Identifying and Assessing Students with
SpLD for Disabled Students Allowance is now published for consultation and
can be viewed by going to the Patoss website -
http://www.patoss-dyslexia.org and clicking on the link we have put there.
This is a very important document since it includes recommendations for
training and a new SpLD/Dyslexia Assessment Award that should become the
model for anyone wishing to assess for SpLD/Dyslexia at any age range. We
have put forward significant proposals for improving training provision and
further the professionalism of specialist teachers.
Please have a look and comment freely.
Included in the report are:
Suitable Tests
Recommended format for assessment report
Recommendations for training assessors
SpLD/Dyslexia Assessment Award Framework
It should be stressed that these are draft recommendations only and are not
applicable to 2004-05 DSA applications. None of the recommendations has
been implemented. The consultation period is open until 31 October.
Thereafter it is proposed that agreed recommendations will begin to be
implemented for 2005-06 with those dependent on additional training to be
in effect by 2007.
