Here at Bournemouth we do not record 'scribes' except in very specific circumstances - where there are severe 'language difficulties' for instance and we want the Academic School to hear the student's actual spoken words to ensure that the 'translation' by the scribe is acceptable.
As far as extra time is concerned, where rest breaks are recommended we advise the student that if they do not take the 10 minute break in a given hour, they lose it. In this way, we are sure that the extra time taken is for reading and/or writing.
We also do not use subject specific reader/scribes, on the basis that they should all be able to read and write on any subject (and in the main we have been proven correct in this assumption). However, wherever possible we do enable students to practise with their allocated reader/scribes beforehand to if they wish.

Some students are given rest breaks on top of this due to certain conditions etc. This is up to 30 mins per exam regardless of how long the exam is. The problem comes in ensuring the students are using the time appropriately i.e. for breaks and not as extra writing time, which may place them at an advantage over other students. - thoughts, comments, ideas?
