Inspiration Library
I am putting together a series of mindmaps using Inspiration on how to use and apply that specific package - currently it is only available for version 6 and I am updating it to reflect the full potential of Version7. Inspiration is perhaps one of the most flexible and versatile of all the products of this ilk and when its users learns how to exploit the full potential of the package the benefits become apparent and its use as a general aid to learning becomes more than apparent.
I am also developing many other Inspiration based training packages to aid learning and the undertaking of technical assessments, including those specifically for Dyslexia, Mental health conditions and Ergonomics.
Some are available FOC the others will be made available as and when completed, forming a fully integrated suite of training and support material.

My colleague Abi James writes:
Spark-Space has been designed with dyslexic students in mind and it is based around the concept of being able to rotate maps and see it at different angles. Although this may suit very visual-dyslexic users, we found that many find it dis-orientating and confusing. Also the toolbar and buttons are not intuitive - the buttons are not standard Microsoft Office buttons and the tooltips aren't that helpful so it is not easy to learn your way around.
Sensory Software have developed a concept mapping program called MindFull. This has been developed with input from dyslexia experts across Europe to be easy to use and understand for all dyslexic students. Maps can be drawn through the mouse controls and easily linked together. There is an outline view which can exported to Word. The toolbar uses standard Microsoft Office buttons and all the menus have been deliberately kept very short in an effort to make it as easy to use as possible If you would like to know more about MindFull there are details on our website (http://www.dyslexic.com/products.php?pid=313 <http://www.dyslexic.com/products.php?pid=313> ) or we can provide copies to evaluate.
Abi has produced a comparison of some of the more common Concept mapping software at http://www.dyslexic.com/database/articles/conceptcompshort.html
We'd be very happy to hear any other perspectives. The concept mapping field is increasingly crowded . . .

Just seen a quick demo of Spark Space - it is suggested that it is more user-friendly than Inspiration... ' I'm not familiar enough with either to judge - but might be worth having a look before purchasing Inspiration.

Hi to all,
I asked a question previously about IT equipment in colleges and lots of you kindly responded.
As a new Disability Officer I am at present trying to purchase some equipment for the college.
I have decided on the following: Texthelp R&W Gold, Inspiration and Mavis Beacon.
Before I go ahead, I just wanted to check that for those of you with this equipment, do the students actually use these packages!!!? Is the feedback positive?
Also, has anyone tried the Txt Help GOLD? It is very expensive and i do not want to waste college money.
Thanks, Paul (DO Richmond College)
