The National Disability Team (NDT) are undertaking a review of audit and
capacity-building tools. Specifically, the study will examine tools that
can be used by higher education (HE) institutions to survey their
provision for disabled students. Tools may survey policy, procedures,
curriculum or services. The study will include internal/ self-review tools
that can be used by the HE institutions, as well as external auditing
processes that can be commissioned by HE institutions.
The research aims to:
• identify tools, existing and in development, that are for use in the HE
sector
• outline the scope and purpose of each tool
• review how institutions have benefited by using tools to audit provision
and support capacity building
• offer general guidance about the audit or capacity building process to
institutions wanting to build capacity for disabled students
To help us with this study, the NDT would appreciate information on tools
that survey provision for disabled students in HE institutions.
Specifically, we would like people to tell us about any audit/ capacity
tools they are aware of and, ideally, let us know who developed the tool
and if/ where the tool has been used. We would also be interested to hear
from auditors or HE staff that are willing to share their experiences of
the audit process (comments can be made anonymous).
We intend to identify and scope the tools by the beginning of July 2004,
therefore any information before this time would be appreciated.
