I would appreciate advice on whether institutions police-check their
non medical helpers. On the whole, we employ other students to do
this support work and they work mainly for one student, rather than a
small pool working for many disabled students. I know there is
legislation coming into place in June 2004 regarding the protection
of vulnerable adults and at the moment the position of the Criminal
Records Bureau is that this should be at our discretion. I would
particularly like to know if institutions have registered and who has
been responsible for the costs of registration and subsequent
applications for disclosure. Also any problems/advantages this has
thrown up.
Thank you in anticipation.
