I've just succeeded in convincing the College that we should ignore any spelling, grammar or punctuation errors in examinations, and our newly printed exam books will have a tick box for dyslexia [woe betide any stduent who ticks that box ifthey are NOTdyslexic].
As for coursework, I brief all dyslexic students that they will get no concessions as we give ample time [several weeks] for coursework and it is up to them to make extra time available, and to use whatever assitive technology or proof reading that has been allocated to them. This may seem harsh, and I note that some DSA assessors are recommending that grammar & spelling be ignored even in coursework, however we believe that a student has to provide work of academic quality.....[though thecynic may ask, whose work?]

Subject: Marking of dyslexic students scripts[Scanned]
Dear All,
I know this is a bit of an old chestnut, but we are just reviewing our
provision in this area. I would be grateful to know if students with
dyslexia have some way of identifying their scripts so that poor grammar
and spelling is disregarded during the marking process. Or is it
general opinion that if a student receives extra time in exams and
dyslexia tuition throughout the year, that they should not need to have
grammar and spelling disregarded in exams.
Your opinions on this will be most welcome. Thank you in anticipation.
Kind regards
Pauline.
