Hi Lena,
We had exactly that situation here with a clinical psychology trainee.
The psychologist used the WASI (Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of
Intelligence) for the dyslexia assessment. Though the format of the
items is similar to the WAIS-III, the individual test items are
different. The student had not seen this scale. The abbreviated scale
should not be used normally as a substitute for the full scale but in
these rare circumstances it was seen to be the only way to get an
estimate of IQ. Thankfully the student was not familiar with the
Wide-range or Woodcock reading tests. However, there was a similar
problem with the use of the Wechsler memory scales and the diagnosis was
based on evidence of a discrepancy.
Hope that helps.
kind regards
Emma
