BUT .. It is very important that this person has an assessment from the
Access to Work Team, I won't do the usual reading between the lines, but
if , by any strange and slim chance, the Access to Work team are the
cause of the delay and problems I would recommend that someone from the
person's employer's side gets involved with advocating for equipment.

Should that not prove helpful perhaps the DRC's helpline might help?

        I have a computer query that I would really appreciate some help

        I might as well be up front, this is not for a student but a
totally
        blind friend of mine, in a work situation.  He's been trying to
resolve
        this for nearly a year now and still hasn't got anywhere and is
        receiving minimal support from his employers. 
	
        He is a computer programmer and needs to use Unix Solaris
Version eight.
        This is a totally new programme to him and he has managed to
make JAWS
        work with this system via Wintegrate.  However, he wants to
know:
	
        1.  Is there a better way of doing this?
        2.  Does anyone know where a totally blind person might go to
get some
        training on how to use Unix Solaris with JAWS, is there anyone
that
        could provide one to one training?
	
        This really has got to desperation point, hence me e mailing
this list,
        I suspect the only reason that he hasn't been laid off is that a
charity
        organisation subsidises his wages.
