You might look at emacspeak
emacs is a standard editor/portal for unix people.
It has a speaking/navigating version called emacspeak, which
some blind people like very much indeed.
http://emacspeak.sourceforge.net/
It is free. How good it is for scripting to a new bit of software I do
not know.

Subject: A plea on behalf of a friend
Dear All,
I have a computer query that I would really appreciate some help with. I
might as well be up front, this is not for a student but a totally blind
friend of mine, in a work situation. He's been trying to resolve this for
nearly a year now and still hasn't got anywhere and is receiving minimal
support from his employers.
He is a computer programmer and needs to use Unix Solaris Version eight.
This is a totally new programme to him and he has managed to make JAWS work
with this system via Wintegrate. However, he wants to know:
1. Is there a better way of doing this?
2. Does anyone know where a totally blind person might go to get some
training on how to use Unix Solaris with JAWS, is there anyone that could
provide one to one training?
This really has got to desperation point, hence me e mailing this list, I
suspect the only reason that he hasn't been laid off is that a charity
organisation subsidises his wages.
Many thanks in anticipation.
