please find below an advert for a fixed term Disability Officer post at the Unviersity of Southampton. It is fixed term until July 04 because we are awaiting the outcome of a major strategic review and will not have news on funding available after 1st August until late Spring.

Disability Officer, Full-time, fixed term contract (until 31st July 2004)
The Disability Service supports students who have a range of disabilities, sensory impairments, mental health issues and chronic physiological conditions. The post-holder will take the responsibility (in liaison with the Disability Co-ordinator) for student casework, including giving advice on funding for additional support and making arrangements for equipment, academic support, personal care, transport etc. The post-holder will also supervise a small team of five Community Service Volunteers who provide academic and social support for individual students.
The University of Southampton Disability Service (which is an aspect of the Student Services section in Professional Services) is seeking a graduate with
* excellent communication skills
* experience of supporting students in Higher Education
* knowledge of curriculum delivery and forms of assessment in order to be able to recommend adjustments taking into account students’ disabilities
* at least two years experience of working with people with a range of disabilities
* creativity and excellent problem solving skills.
The post will be full time at Academic Related Grade 2 (£21,852 - £28,279 per annum) until 31st July 2004.
