Sector Briefings and Checklists from the NDT
As part of the National Disability Team role to provide advice and
guidance to all Higher Education Institutions, a series of briefings and
checklists are being developed and disseminated electronically commencing
November 2004. These aim to support institutions as they independently
monitor and review their provision to identify priorities and targets in
relation to disability issues such as:
- Compliance with new legislation
- Meeting the needs of a more diverse range of students and key
stakeholders
- Responding to a broad range of curriculum development and delivery modes
How can the briefings and checklists be used?
Briefings: Provide general advice and guidance on themes such as
employability and legislation. These briefings have been designed to
offer an introduction to a theme and signpost further useful resources and
materials.
Checklists: Provide a series of questions that individuals and/or teams
can use to develop discussion, raise awareness and support planning in a
particular topic area. They have been designed to be simple, clear and
practical and to help staff to systematically ensure consideration of the
key areas that impact on the experience of disabled students.
Topics and themes in the series include:
Marketing, employability, staff development, legislation, research and
supervision, widening participation, risk analysis, catering and
residential, information and libraries, central services and senior
management and others.
