I have often recommended this particular device and have never had a
problem with any LEA. I think it very unlikely that the Health Service
would meet the cost: in general, provision seems restricted to hearing
aids, largely because few people outside the education environment are
taking part in lectures and classes. Anyway, the tool is
selected because it will solve a particular problem the student faces
on the course; its other uses are irrelevant. It may be that the
Awards Officer hasn't a clear idea of what the device does or that its
function and purpose needs more clarification. Get the assessor to
make further argument to the officer, if necessary suggesting that the
LEA asks others what their policy is. Tell the officer to be grateful
you're not asking for a Sennheiser Mikroport system (which is
excellent, by the way, as deaf users have reported to me).
