Dear Pauline
Videos that you can buy often come with Closed Caption subtitles - there
will be something on the video box that tells you whether it has these.
To display these subtitles you need to buy an adapter which plugs into
the back of your vcr - you can buy one from Connevans
(www.connevans.com), for example, for about £50.
To record programmes from the TV with subtitles, then you can buy
something called a Telemole (again, Connevans sell them) for about £200
which will ensure that if subtitles are transmitted with the programme
then they are recorded onto the video tape too.
Another alternative is to buy DVDs rather than videos, where possible,
as these usually come with subtitles as standard and don't need any
extra equipment for them to be viewed.
