My colleague Abi James writes:
There isn't a handheld medical spell checker available in the UK.
However there is a way of getting medical reference books into a
handheld device. The Franklin Collegiate dictionary
(http://www.dyslexic.com/products.php?pid=316) can connect to a computer
through the PC connectivity kit (additional cost). This allows e-books
to be loaded up on to the bookman card. The Collegiate accepts
mobipocket.com e-books and these include many of the Oxford Reference
Titles. We have managed to upload the Oxford Dictionary of Nursing
(http://www.mobipocket.com/en/eBooks/BookDetails.asp?BookID=8801) and
the Oxford A-Z of Medicinal Drugs
(http://www.mobipocket.com/en/eBooks/BookDetails.asp?BookID=8782) this
way. Although this doesn't offer a spell checking solution it does
provide a handheld reference where terms can be searched for and
checked.
We are also currently looking at the SuperPen Professional from Wizcom.
Like the Reading Pen this can scan in printed text and read it back. The
Super Pen professional comes with an American Medical dictionary. We are
currently testing it to see if would be suitable for use in the UK (if
you would like to help us with this then we would appreciate any
UK-specific medical terms you know).

Abi James

See iANSYST or Microlink for Spellex or Brody dictionaries. They also
produce Dental dictionaries.
