I would have thought the vital interests of the child would have superceded
that ridiculous comment....people should be educated in common-sense in
these matters....Personally, as a parent I would have insisted and was
consenting on behalf of my child.........

***** THIS EMAIL WAS RECEIVED FROM THE INTERNET *****
I understand that data protection was discussed for about 20 minutes
on yesterday's Jeremy Vine programme on Radio 2. During the programme a
listener phoned in to say that when recently in a supermarket she lost her
little boy. The staff at this supermarket refused to put a message on the
tannoy as an alert of a missing child, quoting data protection and the need
to protect the child from any paedophile that may have been in the store.
Comments anyone ?

Subject: DPA mentioned in TV programme
It seems awareness of the Act is growing.
Last night I watched Shameless on Channel 4 and was surprised to
hear the
Data Protection Act mentioned. A debt collector was trying to
recover goods
and said that he knew the father lived at the house because his name
was on
the rent book. A policeman who happened to be in the house (this is
the
shortened version of the story!) asked how he knew that as finding
out the
information would be an offence under the DPA.
Which programme will it turn up in next?
