The GMC is seeking to fill the following vacancy
Information Policy Officer
Manchester - Salary and benefits from c. £30,000
The General Medical Council licenses doctors to practise medicine in the UK.
The law gives us four main functions: * keeping up to date registers of
qualified doctors * fostering good medical practice * promoting high
standards of medical education * dealing firmly and fairly with doctors
whose fitness to practise is in doubt
The General Medical Council is seeking an Information Policy Officer to
develop policy and procedures on records management, data protection and
freedom of information. Placed within the Secretariat of the Policy and
Corporate Affairs Directorate, and reporting to the Information Policy
Manager, the post holder will play an important part in introducing records
management systems and procedures to the GMC and otherwise preparing for
compliance with freedom of information legislation. The post holder will
also support the GMC in its work to become an exemplar of good data
protection practice.
This is a time of major change for the GMC, and this post offers an
excellent opportunity to contribute to an organisation-wide culture change.
The post holder will be actively involved in drawing up, implementing and
maintaining new policies and procedures, delivering training and advice to
colleagues and carrying out other work to ensure legislative compliance.
The post holder will have strong organisational, analytical and influencing
skills. He or she will have excellent communication skills, both written and
oral, and be able to communicate complex technical information in plain
English to GMC staff at all levels. Experience or a relevant qualification
in records management or data protection are desirable but not essential;
the GMC will provide training leading to a certificate in data protection
for candidates who do not already have data protection experience.
The GMC has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are
fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination. Applications are
invited from suitably qualified people from all sections of the community.
