Dear all,
Received copy of notice today of HESAs intention to change the supply of
student data to statutory customers to that of 'named' - previously
names were converted to SOUNDEXed form which generated a code for each
name before they were passed to statutory customers.
The current HESA student collection notice obviously doesn't reflect
this change and states categorically that 'data in your record will be
used in anonymised form'.
HESA fully intends to amend their collection notice and the changes will
eventually be reflected in it.
Question: Do we need to do anything in the interim? On the one hand I'm
focussed on 'fairness' and on the other (given the assurances of HESA)
I'm wondering if the thing is worth the candle.
Best,
Gerry.
