But I also read recently that radiopagers are being phased out because
mobile phones have taken over - so many hospital staff will now be using
mobile phones (which are no doubt switched on while at work) because
they need to be contacted in emergency (eg consultants who work in more
than one hospital). I imagine many doctors may find it helpful to be
able to take photographs and transmit them electronically to colleagues
for their professional advice.
I suspect the main reason for banning phones is their nuisance value
rather than interference risk although the latter may exist in certain
high tech environments like special / intensive care.
