With on-line bankings main benefit being convenience it not surprising that
people may use business/work/education/internet cafes/Peoples
Network/Library machines to access on-line banking, in the mistaken belief,
because of the reassurances given by providers, their information is safe.
One could easily draw the conclusion that technical security is not a strong
point of the financial industry. If it is in the data subjects interests I
sincerely hope those affected by these two recent problems were promptly
informed; if it is not in their interests the arguments why not would be
interesting.
There is probably some food for thought regarding personal
use/security/liability and the risks associated with retention of internet
material in back-up media at all internet access points.
