Our Education Department received advice through a solicitors newsletter
earlier this year that records of school leavers should be destroyed when
they reach their 22nd birthday. The suggestion was that recent legal
decisions mean that when it comes to action for damages taken against
schools/ EPs etc, the relevant limitations mean action needs to be
initiated before an individual is 22.
On discussion we took the view that we would retain for 6 years after date
of leaving, given that some people leave before or after the date of their
16th birthday.
