FOI Exemptions: Which organizations and what information will they cover?
This session will cover FOI exemptions in detail - how they might work, which organizations they apply to and the types of information which in practice might be disclosed. It will also discuss how public authorities might choose to apply the public interest test.

3:45pm Heather Brooke
Author of 'Your Right to Know', a practitioner's handbook that examines UK government secrecy and how to overcome it using the FOIA and other access laws.
FOI, the Media and Building Trust with a Sceptical Public
This session will discuss the FOI Act and other access laws as a means of building trust with a skeptical public. The way a public authority decides to handle a Freedom of Information or other public access request will have direct consequences on its public profile. The potential for negative publicity in the local and/or national media is great, but there are also many opportunities to shine for those organizations which are open and transparent. This talk will also outline the best and worst ways to respond to openness requests based on the speaker's experience as a journalist in the United States.

4:15 Q & A Session

The chairman and speakers will discuss issues raised by delegates.
