Any control (legislative or not), being based on creating a set position
within a paradoxical relationship will necessarily rebalance any existing
financial opportunities. With those controls then utilised by interested
parties for various reasons, some unexpected results should be expected.
Offshoring does appear to be one of those areas where privacy gains (a
geographical distance factor) can be obtained for the majority of
clients/customers and the organisation, but equally this may not necessarily
be perceived as in the interest of a nation state.
Specifically viewing this facet of DP from a privacy perspective I cannot
help but liken it to the individual level where many will use the exit
option rather than continue with an abuse of their personal privacy aimed at
either the implementation of strong control, or the exertion of covert
manipulation causing a strong refocus on peripheral interests. Rhythmically
heaving humanity and autonomy, or in a business context a sort of Tom Peters
old business statement 'stick to the knitting', I suppose.
Applying the DP principles should assist in avoiding the dangers associated
with any dilution of effort, but clearly interpretation is all important and
where concepts are utilised to dilute a business focus, many of those
principles may be reinterpreted to fit the requirements.
From the small amount of attention I have so far given to the ongoing
developments in this area it is clearly an interesting peripheral factor in
assisting to separate public/private issues from privacy.
