I have a bit of a problem with the "marital status" type of question, and
what may or may not be assumed from a data subject's response. For example,
having been married and now not, I can legitimately and truthfully
tick "Single", "Divorced" and "Living with partner" simultaneously.
Potential fun on paper forms; potential difficulty on web sites designed so
that only one answer is permitted ;-)
The designers of such forms need to bear in mind what information they
actually *need*. How many times do we see requests for date of birth, when
all that is necessary is (for example) a declaration that the respondent is
over 18?
Tuesday rant over.
Regards
Tim
