Why is this "Stuart Rose"?
OK, now you can also have your PIN swiped. (side issue: "PIN Number" is
amusing, so is "ISBN Number")
My bank sent me a new chip and pin credit card. I know this for two
reasons.
1) I got a letter announcing the PIN. I do not use PINs with credit cards
so binned it
2) I got a phone call from my bank checking that the PIN had arrived.
"Great service" thought I. (this is the bank that doesn't; want us to use
ATMs more than once per week). Was a good call. They asked me for the
various things they ask for. Plus a few others. Very cool, calm and
collected. "No, sir, never give your PIN to anyone, we will never ask you
for it." followed by "For validation purposes, please will you give me any
four digit number you associate with that card?"
3) I called the bank. The card had already been used for petrol, groceries
and a cinema ticket. Not by me.
Oh yes. They don't prosecute. It isn't worth it, and the police don't
care. This crime never gets reported and never makes crime book stats.

David,
Thanks for that comment. It proves to me this is a waste of time.
We are being given technology developed 20 years ago? I know siginificant
modifications will have occured but you cannot beat crime by using old
techniques, surely?
Meanwhile, the fraudsters have deloped a lot of technology and skill in
parting us from our cash.
Would you be able to elaborate on the Restaurant issue. I'm used to handing
a card over and a waiter taking it away to swipe. Does a waiter now carry a
device which he can use at the table to read the card and take the pin
number?
Regards,
Carl
