This one will get the typing fingers going!
A risk assessment gone wrong? Clearly the danger to the child is greater
by not making staff aware, thus reducing the chances of early and safe
discovery. The longer a child is missing, the greater the risk.
Another DPA smoke screen, was the argument "If we make an announcement,
what is the risk to this organisation if that announcement results in the
child being abducted"? If the child horror to think) was abducted would
the Infomration Commissioner say "Common Sense" should have prevailed and
an announcement should have been made. Announcements can also be coded, a
small child may not relate to their name being announced on a tannoy, a
named announcement may increase the risk if the child is too young to
comprehend.
The supermarket have it wrong, if the statement was made in the context
suggested by the listener, consent by the parent sufficies if ever needed.
