OK, here is some dangerous ground, but those of you who like a healthy
debate on Data Protection Act 1998!
Take nicotine.
http://www.galaxygoo.org/nicotine/what_is_nicotine.html
As with most addictive substances, humans have devised a number of ways of
delivering nicotine to their bodies. Nicotine (C10H14N2) is a naturally
occurring liquid alkaloid. An alkaloid is an organic compound made out of
carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sometimes oxygen. These chemicals have potent
effects on the human body. For example, many people regularly enjoy the
stimulating effects of another alkaloid, caffeine, as they quaff a cup or
two of coffee in the morning.
The most common (and the most expedient way) to get nicotine and other DRUGS
into your bloodstream is through inhalation -- by smoking it.
As pointed out in this thread; In this Act "sensitive personal data" means
personal data consisting of information as to-
His physical or mental health or condition.
(The contentious bit) By actively introducing an addictive drug into my body
i.e. smoking, am I not indicating that I am addicted to an alkaloid drug
(C10H14N2) known as nicotine?
Is not an addiction to such an alkaloid drug an indication of my condition
or physical health, and therefore a declaration that I smoke, sensitive
personal data?
Mmm
