Of course there is a process Stewart and that was what I was meaning that the whole Records Manager role should be looked at in-depth - some Records Managers are also Archivists but it is a very topical position and I think they should be recognised for the very important role they play especially with FOI etc. By the way, Stewart, I am not a Records Manager..............D

At the risk of going a little far off topic, surely you can't just up the
salary of the post at whim, wouldn't that lead to equal pay problems? I
thought all public sector bodies were obliged to use job evaluation, which
would at least determine the salary range.

I think your Council, like many others throughout the UK should re-assess
the salary scale for a Records Manager. We advertised here at the same
salary in the Scotsman and the ad appeared alongside another Records Manager
job at a University and the salary was about £15K pa more. I believe
another Council was offering approx. £10K more than we did too. I suppose
it all depends on qualifications they are requiring etc but surely RM is a
vital part of modernising government....give those Records Managers some
credit out there.
I hope you don't end up like us and hardly anyone applying....and I can't
say I blame them at that poor salary................so no Jackie, I won't be
contemplating moving to Peterborough..............
