I agree and let's face it...they've always existed but years ago these topics were not openly discussed. The story goes that the majority of paedophiles are either relatives/close family and probably in days of yore - these activities would be brushed under the carpet to eliminate shame etc....Whereas now, they have no hiding place and by taking a video at school/sports day etc. is not going to stop a paedophile if he/she has their mind set on that course of action.

I don't follow the logic of this at all.
If you are able to get into the school and film/photograph the child then
you already know where he/she is and what they look like - so what are you
protecting them from?
Of course the argument may be that the photograph/film will be passed on to
a third-party to enable them to carry out the abduction on behalf of the
aggrieved parent. In this case then banning photography is not enough; the
police will have to be sent round to every estranged parent's home to seize
any pictures they may already have, plus those held by grandparents, aunts,
uncles...
We are getting totally paranoid about the whole subject of paedophiles. Yes
they exist, yes what the do is unspeakably horrible, but the really awful
truth is that the majority of child abusers are not strangers who film them
in school nativity plays and concerts, they are the children's parents or
adults in positions of responsibility who work with children. How do bans
like this solve that problem?

iirc the reasoning behind this kind of ban _is_ rather closer to a DP
concern. If there are children that are subject to custody disputes, then
the identification of them through such a means might in principle
increase their chances of being abducted. Myself, I would have thought
that compared to the danger of being filmed/followed on the way to or from
the school, the added danger was pretty minimal, but I can see a concern
that is actually related to privacy and DP (rather than absurd ideas that
paedophiles might be interested in the pictures).
