As I travel around the country providing advice and training I hear of video
banning and other situations, ususally implemented at school level, rather
than LEA level.
One school I know of banned video cameras because it couldn't guarantee that
every person at the concert was a bona fide parent. At another one I found
the headteacher was making a good income for the school selling an "authorised"
video of the concert (available on VHS, DVD and VCD). The majority of schools
I hear about have no such ban but they fulfil the wishes of any parents
objecting to their child being filmed.
Incidentally, how many of the schools banning video cameras at concerts have
similar bans on the local press coming into the school to take "publicity"
shots to appear in newspapers? Or a ban on the school photographer (are they
subject to a CRB check?) or the photographer that accompanies the visiting
dignitary?
